Job summary

Dashiell, an operating unit of Quanta Services (PWR), seeks a Civil Structural Designer for our Houston, TX office. The role focuses on producing high voltage substation layouts and related drawings as part of a project team, with responsibilities including BOM creation and ensuring design quality.

Ideal candidates have five years of structural substation design experience and an Associate’s Degree in Drafting & Design; familiarity with AutoCAD and civil/structural codes is preferred.

Qualifications

• Experience with AutoCAD 2010 or newer and structural drafting of steel structures.
• Knowledge of drawings for foundation and steel construction.
• Basic knowledge of civil/structural codes and standards (AISC, ACI).
• Mathematics including algebra and trigonometry.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook).
• Strong communication skills and ability to work in a team.
• Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.

Responsibilities

• Produce new drawings from examples of previous projects and standards.
• Produce HV substation layouts and elevations from one-line drawings.
• Create conduit and grounding drawings.
• Calculate ground grid, structure heights/weights, and concrete volumes.
• Prepare substation bill of materials with part numbers and quantities.
• Ensure timely completion within defined project schedules.
• Supervise drafters and junior designers on project tasks.
• Research information in catalogs, standards, or reference material.
• Learn and use task-specific software and document management systems.
• Maintain quality and accuracy of work and escalate issues as needed.
