Job summary

HDR is seeking a Substation CAD Technician in Irvine, CA to produce detailed engineering drawings and coordinate with electrical, structural, and civil teams. The role requires strong CAD skills, experience with 3D design software, and the ability to translate sketches into finished drawings.

Responsibilities include developing wiring diagrams, BOMs, and control schematics, with an emphasis on accuracy, documentation, and collaboration across disciplines.

Qualifications

• Technical degree or minimum of 3 years related industry experience.
• Competency with 3D design software and document management infrastructure.
• Excellent communication skills, attention to detail and organizational traits are essential.

Responsibilities

• Prepare engineering drawings using CAD software (One Line Diagrams, General Arrangements, Grounding & Conduit Plans, Foundation Plans, BOMs, Relay & Control Schematics).
• Coordinate with engineers and designers across disciplines (electrical, structural, civil).
• Perform Redline corrections and develop drawings from sketches.
• Carry out discipline-specific drafting tasks under supervision.
• Perform other duties as needed.
