Job summary

American Electric Power (AEP) is seeking a Designer Associate/SG4/SG5 to create and maintain detailed electrical substation drawings using CAD software. The role requires reviewing vendor prints, performing design checks for standards, and preparing layouts and records with minimal supervision.

Travel and overtime may be required to support projects and ensure quality deliverables. The position emphasizes collaboration with engineering teams, cost estimation, and maintaining compliance with AEP

Qualifications

• Associate degree in CAD drafting or related engineering technology, or equivalent experience/education.
• Equivalent experience without AAS: high school grad with 4 years in electric utility drafting or CAD work.

Responsibilities

• Plan and coordinate daily work routines to maintain efficient production.
• Create, revise and maintain detailed engineering drawings and sketches.
• Prepare study layouts, designs, and original working drawings per AEP standards.
• Check designs for strength and conformity to standards; review vendor prints and shop drawings.
• Perform cost estimates and prepare bills of materials when required.
• Furnish direction and assist in training less experienced staff.
