Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Inspect and evaluate existing electrical equipment/systems for installation, troubleshooting and improvements.
  • Ensure system event assessments and RCAs for equipment failures with corrective actions.
  • Prepare technical reports, calculations, and design plans for projects and analysis.
  • Perform independent engineering work under guidance on techniques and criteria.
  • Model and analyze power systems using relevant software; stay current with standards and technology.

Responsibilities
  • Performs inspections and evaluations of existing conditions for various electrical equipment and systems for proper installation, problem identification/ trouble shooting, and overall improvements.
  • Ensures system event assessments and RCA are performed for equipment failures and implements corrective actions, confirming proper mitigation plans are in place.
  • Prepares thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations, and design plans related to projects and analysis of increasing scope and complexity.
  • Conducts independent engineering work, receiving guidance on the evaluation, selection, application and adaptation of engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria.
  • Performs power system modeling and analyses utilizing software tools and applications; stays informed of technology advancements, market trends, and relevant guidelines and standards related to energy technology.
  • Ensures the performance of day-to-day preventive maintenance activities to maintain equipment and ensure continued operation according to required standards including Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) quality and environmental and reliability standards.
  • Helps ensure infrastructure’s supporting processes are validated/qualified throughout their life cycle.
  • Develops the engineering facility design, including but not limited to electrical system design, such as sizing, creating one-line diagrams, and selecting equipment.
  • Assists in the development of new technology and standards strategy and the implementation of strategies into business operations to improve power system functionality and quality of service to customers.
  • Acts as project sponsors with some technical assistance when responding to technical questions requiring project modification to move projects through their lifecycle.
  • A material job duty of all positions within the Company is ensuring the protection of all its physical, financial and cybersecurity assets, and properly accessing and managing private customer data, proprietary information, confidential medical records, and other types of highly sensitive information and data with the highest standards of conduct and integrity.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Bachelor's Degree in a scientific/technical/math field.
  • Two or more years of experience performing engineering work in operations, production, construction or maintenance environments.
  • Possess a valid Class C Driver's License.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution; Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field is preferred.
  • Current California Professional Engineer (P.E.) license or ability to obtain licensure.
  • Experience supporting, configuring, testing, or maintaining substation automation systems and equipment, including Human-Machine Interface (HMI) systems, Programmable Automation Controllers (PACs), Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), and Remote Terminal Units (RTUs).
  • Experience with substation communication protocols and standards, including IEC 61850, DNP3, Modbus, and Modbus Plus.
  • Experience administering or supporting Linux Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) and Microsoft Windows Server operating systems in an operational technology (OT) or utility environment.
  • Working knowledge of microprocessor-based protective relays, with experience supporting and configuring Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL) and GE protection and automation equipment preferred.
  • Experience troubleshooting substation communication networks, intelligent electronic devices (IEDs), SCADA systems, and automation infrastructure.
  • Knowledge of electric utility operations, grid modernization technologies, digital substations, and wildfire mitigation initiatives.
  • Experience supporting engineering, commissioning, maintenance, or operations activities in transmission and distribution substations.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills with the ability to effectively collaborate across engineering, operations, maintenance, and cybersecurity organizations
Additional Information
  • This position’s work mode is hybrid. The employee will report to an SCE facility for a set number of days with the option to work remotely on the remaining days. Unless otherwise noted, employees are required to work and reside in the state of California. Further details of this work mode will be discussed at the interview stage. The work mode can be changed based on business needs.
