Job summary

ReNew Life Recovery Services in Danville, Virginia is seeking an experienced Substance Use Disorder Counselor to join our growing treatment team.

You will provide individual, group, and family counseling, conduct screenings and assessments, and develop personalized treatment plans within an integrated behavioral health setting, collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to support recovery, stability, and long-term success.

Qualifications

  • Current Virginia credential appropriate for providing substance use disorder counseling services
  • 2-5 years of substance use treatment experience preferred
  • Strong understanding of addiction, recovery, relapse prevention, and co-occurring disorders
  • Experience providing individual and/or group counseling
  • Strong assessment, treatment planning, and clinical documentation skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary treatment team

Responsibilities

  • Provide individual, group, and family substance use counseling within your scope of practice
  • Complete screenings, assessments, and substance use evaluations as appropriate
  • Develop and support individualized treatment and recovery plans
  • Facilitate structured therapeutic and psychoeducational groups
  • Apply ASAM principles and level-of-care considerations when appropriate
  • Help clients identify relapse triggers, strengthen coping skills, and develop recovery supports
  • Provide motivational interviewing, relapse-prevention, and recovery-focused interventions
  • Monitor client progress and update treatment goals as needed
  • Maintain timely, accurate, and clinically appropriate documentation
  • Participate in interdisciplinary treatment planning and case consultation
  • Collaborate with therapists, psychiatric providers, nurses, peer recovery specialists, QMHPs, and community partners
  • Support discharge planning, referrals, and continuity of care
  • Maintain compliance with applicable Virginia DBHDS, DMAS, professional credentialing, and CARF requirements

ReNew Life Recovery Services is seeking an experienced Substance Use Disorder Counselor to join our growing treatment team in Danville, Virginia.

This is an opportunity for a skilled addiction professional who wants to do meaningful work within an integrated behavioral health setting. You will work with individuals facing substance use and co-occurring mental health challenges while collaborating with a multidisciplinary team focused on recovery, stability, and long-term success.

What You Will Do

What We Are Looking For
  • Current Virginia credential appropriate for providing substance use disorder counseling services

Relevant credentials may include:

  • Certified Substance Abuse Counselor (CSAC)
  • Licensed Substance Abuse Treatment Practitioner (LSATP)i>
  • LPC, LCSW, LMFT, or other qualifying Virginia clinical license with appropriate substance use experience
  • Other Virginia-recognized addiction treatment credentials appropriate to assigned duties
We Would Especially Like to Meet You If You Have
  • ASAM experience
  • Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) experience
  • Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) experience
  • Experience treating co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders
  • Medication-assisted treatment experience
  • Virginia DBHDS program experience
  • Virginia Medicaid or DMAS experience
  • Group facilitation experience
  • Crisis intervention experience
  • CARF-accredited program experience
Compensation

$32-$37 per hour

Compensation will be based on credentials, experience, substance use treatment background, and overall qualifications.
