Job summary

Samaritan Daytop Village is seeking a Substance Use Counselor to join our clinical team. You will manage a caseload of patients with substance use disorders, deliver individual and group counseling, perform assessments, coordinate services, and maintain documentation to support recovery within our community program.

The role emphasizes trauma-informed care, collaborative care with the treatment team, and referrals to appropriate services.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalent required.
• OASAS CASAC-T or CASAC Certification required.
• 1–2 years of experience with SUD clients preferred in OTP settings.
• Trauma-informed care knowledge and related training preferred.
• Knowledge of laws regarding personnel and client information.

Responsibilities

• Develops a treatment plan with input from the Program Director or Clinical Supervisor.
• Use trauma-informed, strengths-based approaches with patients and treatment teams.
• Provide clinical consultation to referral resources, family members, and others.
• Engage patients in decision-making and explain benefits of assessment and appropriate level of care.
• Collects referral information and coordinates scheduling of patient interviews.
• Make referrals to appropriate programs and agencies to meet treatment needs.
• Assist patients with scheduling admissions or first appointments at referred programs.

The Role

Under general direction, the Substance Use Counselor is an integral member of the clinical team and serves as the primary counselor to a caseload of substance use disorder patients. The SU Counselor will manage a caseload of patients, provide individual and group counseling, conduct an assessment, coordinate services, psycho-education, referrals, and keep all required documentation up to date. This work is carried out in support of the mission and goals of Samaritan Daytop Village.

Responsibilities

What You Will Do

• Develops a treatment plan in concert with the Program Director or Clinical Supervisor that reflects an understanding of specialized Track issues as related to the physical, medical, cognitive, and psychosocial needs and specific diagnosis.
• Uses a strengths-based and trauma-informed approach to work collaboratively with patients and internal and external treatment team members to help support patients in their treatment and recovery.
• Provides clinical consultation to referral resources, Mentors, family members, and others to help support patients in their recovery.
• Works closely with patients to engage them in the decision-making process and help them understand the benefits of assessment and accessing the appropriate level of care as indicated.
• Collects and reviews referral information upon assignment of patients from the referral source and consults with others as needed to support coordination of services and scheduling of patient interviews.
• Based on assessments, make referrals to the most appropriate programs and agencies in an effort to help patients access the right level of care to best meet their treatment needs.
• Assists patients with scheduling an admission or first appointment date at the program or facility where they are referred.
• Monitors patient access to and involvement with treatment and other providers to help address barriers to treatment and the recovery process.

Qualifications

Who You Will Be

• High School Diploma or Equivalent.
• OASAS CASAC-T or CASAC Certification.
• Minimum One-Two (1-2) years of related experience working with clients with Substance Use Disorder (SUD) preferably within an Opioid Treatment Program.
• Knowledge and/or training in Trauma Informed Care and various organizational treatment.
• Knowledge of and experience working with persons with co-occurring disorders.
• Knowledge of the laws regarding personnel and client information.
