Job summary

Samaritan Daytop Village, Inc. is seeking a Substance Use Counselor to serve as a primary counselor for a caseload of clients with substance use disorders.

The role involves individual and group counseling, assessments, referrals, and thorough documentation to support recovery within our clinical team. Under supervision, you will collaborate with the program director and treatment staff, applying trauma-informed practices and evidence-based approaches to promote client engagement and progression

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalent.
• OASAS CASAC-T or CASAC Certification.
• 1–2 years of experience with Substance Use Disorder clients, preferably in an Opioid Treatment Program.
• Knowledge of Trauma-Informed Care and related treatments.
• Knowledge of laws regarding personnel and client information.
• Experience with co-occurring disorders.

Responsibilities

• Develops a treatment plan in collaboration with supervisors reflecting patient needs and diagnosis.
• Employs a strengths-based, trauma-informed approach with patients and treatment teams.
• Provides clinical consultation and support to family members and referral resources.
• Engages patients in decision-making and educates on appropriate levels of care.
• Collects referral information and coordinates scheduling of patient interviews.
• Makes referrals to relevant programs and agencies to match patient needs.
• Assists patients with scheduling admissions or first appointments.
• Monitors access to treatment and addresses barriers to care.

The Role

Under general direction, the Substance Use Counselor is an integral member of the clinical team and serves as primary counselor to a caseload of substance use disorder and patients. The SU Counselor will manage a caseload of patients, provide individual and group counseling, conduct assessment, coordination of services, psychoeducation, referrals, and keeping all required documentation up to date. This work is carried out in support of the mission and goals of Samaritan Daytop Village.

Responsibilities

What You Will Do

• Develops a treatment plan in concert with the Program Director or Clinical Supervisor that reflects an understanding of specialized Track issues as related to the physical, medical, cognitive, and psychosocial needs and specific diagnosis.
• Uses a strengths-based and trauma-informed approach to work collaboratively with patients and internal and external treatment team members to help support patients in their treatment and recovery.
• Provides clinical consultation to referral resources, Mentors, family members, and others to help support patients in their recovery.
• Works closely with patients to engage them in the decision-making process and help them understand the benefits of assessment and accessing the appropriate level of care as indicated.
• Collects and reviews referral information upon assignment of patients from the referral source and consults with others as needed to support coordination of services and scheduling of patient interviews.
• Based on assessments, make referrals to the most appropriate programs and agencies in an effort to help patients access the right level of care to best meet their treatment needs.
• Assists patients with scheduling an admission or first appointment date at the program or facility where they are referred.
• Monitors patient access to and involvement with treatment and other providers to help address barriers to treatment and the recovery process.

Qualifications

Who You Will Be

• High School Diploma or Equivalent.
• OASAS CASAC-T or CASAC Certification.
• Minimum One-Two (1-2) years of related experience working with clients with Substance Use Disorder (SUD) preferably within an Opioid Treatment Program.
• Knowledge and/or training in Trauma Informed Care and various organizational treatment.
• Knowledge of and experience working with persons with co-occurring disorders.
• Knowledge of the laws regarding personnel and client information.
