Job summary

The GEO Group, Inc. is hiring an educational program specialist to organize and deliver substance abuse and cognitive behavior education within our facilities in Florida. The role focuses on classroom-style instruction and group counseling, aimed at reducing recidivism and promoting rehabilitation.

The ideal candidate holds a high school diploma with counseling or teaching experience; a Bachelor's is preferred. Certification in Thinking for Change (T4C) should be obtained within 3 months.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Ability to obtain Thinking for Change (T4C) certification within 3 months of employment.
  • Relevant teaching or counseling experience in a correctional setting preferred.
  • Working knowledge of the Twelve Step Program of Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous.
  • Ability to interact in a professional manner in both individual and group counseling settings.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work with a team of professionals and implement team strategy approaches.
  • Ability to work with computers and the necessary software typically used by the department.

Responsibilities

  • Provides relevant substance abuse and cognitive behavior information in a classroom-like environment.
  • Facilitates and co-facilitates educational presentations and group counseling on substance abuse and cognitive behavior matters.
  • Reviews and recommends instructional materials and programs for use in the substance abuse cognitive behavior programs.
  • Maintains knowledge of new developments in the field of substance abuse and cognitive behavior.
  • Maintains professional relationships with other substance abuse professionals, programs, and associations.
  • Participates in related training for substance abuse and cognitive behavior.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

Summary

This position organizes and facilitates programs to provide education for conditions and problems relating to drug and alcohol abuse and cognitive behavior.
