Job summary

The GEO Group seeks a qualified Substance Abuse Counselor to support class curriculum, deliver didactic educational presentations, and provide group and individual counseling within the substance abuse program.

You will select instructional materials, stay current with field developments, and collaborate with other professionals to assess and manage residents’ needs. This role emphasizes reliability, communication, and adherence to deadlines in a correctional setting.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree with major in chemical dependency, psychology, social work, counseling or related field and 1 year clinical experience in health or human service agency
• Associate Degree with major in chemical dependency, psychology, social work, counseling, nursing or related field and 2 years clinical experience in health or human service agency
• Knowledge of addictions or mental health counseling preferred
• Ability to adhere to strict deadlines
• Good written and oral communication skills
• Ability to work overtime as requested by supervisor
• Ability to work with computers and necessary software typically used by the department

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

• A Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college with a major in chemical dependency, psychology, social work, counseling, or related field and one (1) year clinical experience in a health or human service agency, OR
  • An Associate Degree from an accredited college with a major in chemical dependency, psychology, social work, counseling, nursing, or related field and two (2) years clinical experience in health or human service agency.
• Knowledge of the field of addictions or mental health counseling preferred.
• Required skills include: time management and organizational skills.
• Ability to adhere to strict deadlines.
• Good written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to work overtime as requested by supervisor.
• Ability to work with computers and the necessary software typically used by the department.

Physical Requirements

In this position, you will frequently have to lift or carry up to 20 lbs. Candidates should also be able to bend, stoop, walk, and stand (31-60% of the time). You will also occasionally lift, carry, push, or pull up to 40 lbs.

Pay

Pay USD $30.00/Hr.
