Job summary

K&I Healthcare Services seeks a Substance Abuse Counselor in Baltimore, MD, to work in-person with clients to establish coping skills and relapse prevention plans after completing the Intensive Outpatient Program.

The role requires an active Maryland CAC-AD or ADT license, 1–3 years in behavioral health, strong communication skills, and proficiency with ICANotes. Salary is $25.00–$30.00/hr, 40 hours/week, in-person setting.

Qualifications

  • Must possess Maryland CAC-AD or ADT licensure.
  • 1-3 years' experience in behavioral healthcare or substance abuse.
  • Knowledge of dual diagnosis case management.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication required.
  • Proficient with ICANotes is a plus.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to prioritize workload and meet deadlines.
  • Confidentiality and cultural sensitivity.
  • Empathy for diverse gender and cultural groups.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate clients' mental and physical health, addiction, or problem behavior and assess readiness for treatment.
  • Assist clients in developing treatment goals and plans, including education about medically assisted treatment options and referral/collaboration with medical teams.
  • Review and recommend treatment options with clients and families; partner with IOP staff on aftercare.
  • Assist clients develop skills and behaviors necessary to recover from addiction.
  • Work with clients to identify behaviors or situations that interfere with recovery.
  • Educate families about addiction and help them develop coping strategies.
  • Refer clients to other resources and services, such as support groups and job placement services.
  • Conduct outreach programs to identify signs of addiction and steps to avoid such behavior.
  • Perform any other job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Must possess a valid State of Maryland Licensure or Credential that allows for practice as a Certified Associate Counselor-Alcohol and Drug (CAC-AD) or ADT.
  • 1-3 years' experience in a behavioral healthcare or substance abuse setting.
  • Knowledge of case management for dual diagnosis patient.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.
  • Proficient with ICANotes is a plus.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to prioritize workload and meet deadlines.
  • Proven ability to handle multiple projects under pressure.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Understanding of diverse cultures and gender specific issues and the ability to incorporate needs of gender and culturally diverse groups into the organization.
  • Maintains appropriate confidentiality at all times when interacting with patients, residents, families, visitors, referral sources and all other contacts.
  • Displays excellent customer relation skills as evidenced by supportive and constructive communication with all contacts including coworkers, patients, residents, visitors, families and referral sources.

  • Educate families about addiction or behavior disorders and help them develop strategies to cope with those problems.
  • Refer clients to other resources and services, such as support groups and job placement services.
  • Conduct outreach programs to help people identify the signs of addiction and other destructive behavior, as well as steps to take to avoid such behavior.
  • Perform any other job-related duties as assigned.

Salary: $25.00 - $30.00 per hour
