Job summary

San Francisco AIDS Foundation (SFAF) is seeking a Subsidy Coordinator for the Housing & Benefits team to support rental assistance participants. You will work with clients and service providers to stabilize housing, navigate benefits, and connect to care.

The role manages a caseload of about 75 participants, provides counseling on housing, HIV prevention, and benefits access, visits clients at home, and coordinates with landlords and medical staff to ensure program policies are followed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in social work or four years of social work, client services or intake experience required.
• Competency in written and oral English language.

Responsibilities

• Assist participants housing search or retention; consult with landlords and coordinate with medical case managers regarding policies.
• Calculate and document monthly rental assistance; generate and communicate changes to subsidy participants and parties.
• Provide counseling and practical support in housing, HIV prevention, treatment advocacy, and social services; educate on benefits access and tenant rights.
• Visit clients for re-certifications, wellness checks, and inspections; travel to meet clients in homes or facilities.

What is the position?

SFAF's Housing & Benefits team provides support to community members seeking rental subsidy and assistance. The Subsidy Coordinator is responsible for working with clients and their service providers to stabilize housing, connect to care, and provide social support. This role will manage a caseload of approximately 75 rental assistance participants and provide each client with comprehensive support and guidance through the program.

What are the main responsibilities?

• Assist program participant’s housing search and/or retention of current housing. Provide consultation with landlords, property managers, and case conference with medical case managers regarding program policies and troubleshooting client needs.
• Calculate and document correct monthly rental assistance, generate monthly expense payment requests and draft and communicate changes to assigned subsidy participants and appropriate parties.
• Provide counseling and practical support in housing, HIV prevention, treatment advocacy (HIV, Medical and Psychiatric Care) and social service support. Provide education and advocacy in regards to Tenant and Landlord rights and responsibilities.
• Counsel and educate clients on financial benefits to ensure they access relevant local, state, and federal benefits. Facilitate client access to medical care and medications; enroll or refer for ADAP enrollment as necessary, refer to appropriate benefits agencies when indicated.
• Visit clients in their homes for re-certifications, wellness checks, and quality inspections. Travel to meet with clients in their homes and at area hospitals/care facilities.

Who are we looking for?

• Bachelor’s degree in social work or four years social work, client services or intake experience required.
• Housing and Financial Benefits experience and HQS Inspection certification preferred
• Ability to work with clients with HIV, histories of homelessness, poverty, trauma, incarceration, and/or substance use. Comfort level serving client who are LGBT, varying ethnic origin, varying education level, varying age.
• Competency in written and oral English language.
• Ability to maintain files in compliance with HIPPA regulation and professional standards.

Where is the position located?

This position is primarily located at 940 Howard, San Francisco, however it may occasionally require traveling to other office locations or off-site meetings as required by the job.

What we offer?

Hourly Rate : $30- $33 Per Hour

Benefits : SFAF is proud to offer a comprehensive and competitive benefits package for our full-time employees.We offer combined PTO/Sick Time Off of 24 days for the first two years of employment, 29 days after two years of employment. For retirement we offer a 403(b) Plan and SFAF matches employee contributes (1 to 1) up to 3% of Salary.
