Averro seeks a Subject Matter Expert in rotating machinery for a first-of-a-kind advanced nuclear reactor program in Bellevue, WA. The role focuses on the complete lifecycle of large vertical pump design, from concept through fabrication and commissioning.

The ideal candidate brings 15+ years of mechanical systems experience, strong analysis skills, and proven leadership in multi-discipline design teams and supplier coordination.

Qualifications

• BS in Mechanical Engineering (or related) with 15+ years of mechanical systems experience.
• Demonstrated experience in large vertical pump design and manufacture.
• Full hardware lifecycle from concept through fabrication and commissioning.
• Strong background in fluid and structural analysis, tolerance analysis, and interpreting engineering drawings.
• Proven ability to lead supplier coordination and multi-discipline design teams with minimal direction.
• Excellent technical writing, communication, and presentation skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical oversight for large nuclear fluid pumps across design, testing, and manufacturing.
• Review supplier deliverables to ensure pump designs meet performance and safety requirements.
• Author and maintain pump specifications, design inputs, and qualification testing programs.
• Lead development of complete design packages including calculations, drawings, P&IDs, and specs.
• Ensure compliance with ASME, ANS, ASTM, IEEE, NFPA standards.
• Support project planning and scheduling aligned with plant design milestones.
• Provide guidance on nuclear and non-nuclear design standards and regulatory requirements.

ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES

We are seeking a Subject Matter Expert in Rotating Machinery for a first-of-a-kind advanced nuclear reactor program, which would be a great opportunity for someone with experience in large vertical pump design and hardware lifecycle management looking to further their career in nuclear energy systems.

Provide technical oversight for large nuclear fluid pumps across design, testing, and manufacturing phases.

Review supplier deliverables and ensure pump designs meet performance and safety requirements.

Author and maintain pump specifications, design inputs, and qualification testing programs.

Lead development of complete design packages including calculations, drawings, P&IDs, and specifications.

Ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards (ASME, ANS, ASTM, IEEE, NFPA).

Support project planning and scheduling in alignment with overall plant design milestones.

Provide technical guidance on nuclear and non-nuclear design standards and regulatory requirements.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline with 15+ years of mechanical systems experience.

Demonstrated experience in large vertical pump design and manufacture.

Full hardware lifecycle experience from design concept through fabrication and commissioning.

Strong background in fluid and structural analysis, tolerance analysis, and engineering drawing interpretation.

Proven ability to lead supplier coordination and multi-discipline design team efforts with minimal direction.

Excellent technical writing, communication, and presentation skills.

BONUS QUALIFICATIONS

Experience with nuclear fluid systems, high-temperature process environments, or sodium-cooled reactor technology.

Familiarity with NQA-1 or equivalent nuclear quality assurance programs.

Prior experience in supplier oversight within a nuclear or highly regulated industrial environment.
