Job Function

Assist the Head or Group Teacher in carrying out activities that ensure the classroom meets the Head Start Performance Standards and New Jersey Licensing Regulations.

Essential Functions

1. Assist the teacher in planning and implementing educational activities, interacting with children in a developmentally appropriate manner, and developing individualized plans.
2. Observe, screen, assess, and document children's growth and development; record observations and activities.
3. Assist with administrative duties delegated by the teacher.
4. Assume Teacher responsibilities in their absence.
5. Maintain accurate records, including attendance and classroom in-kind contributions, submitting reports monthly.
6. Participate in staff meetings, training, and workshops.
7. Encourage parent and volunteer involvement, participate in home visits and conferences, and coordinate volunteer programs.
8. Perform any other Head Start tasks as delegated.

Qualifications

• Child Development Associate (CDA) credential or enrollment in CDA or early childhood coursework leading to an associate or bachelor degree.
• High School Diploma or G.E.D.
• Reliable transportation daily.
• Ability to read and write sufficiently to maintain records.
