Job Function

Assist the Head or Group Teacher in carrying out activities that ensure the classroom meets Head Start Performance Standards and New Jersey Licensing Regulations.

Essential Functions
  1. Assist the teacher in planning and implementing educational activities and interacting with children appropriately. Support the development of individualized plans for children.
  2. Assist in observing, screening, assessing, and documenting children's growth and development; maintain records of observations and activities.
  3. Support administrative duties delegated by the teacher.
  4. Take on teacher responsibilities in their absence.
  5. Maintain accurate records, including daily attendance and classroom in-kind contributions, submitting reports monthly.
  6. Participate in staff meetings, training, and workshops.
  7. Encourage parent and volunteer involvement, including home visits and conferences, and coordinate volunteer programs.
  8. Perform other Head Start tasks as delegated.
Qualifications
  1. Child Development Associate (CDA) credential or enrollment in CDA or early childhood coursework leading to an associate or bachelor degree.
  2. High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  3. Reliable transportation daily.
  4. Ability to read and write sufficiently to maintain records.
