Qualifications

  • 3–5 years of experience in quality or fabrication in the structural steel industry.
  • Working knowledge of AISC 207, 360, 303 and AWS D1.1.
  • Familiarity with fabrication documentation.
  • Ability to read and interpret shop drawings and specifications.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and be willing to travel.
  • CWI certification (preferred).
  • Experience with AISC certification programs and audits (preferred).
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to lift up to 75 lbs and pass vision requirements.
  • Willing to work overtime.

SUB-FABRICATION QUALITY ASSURANCE INSPECTOR

JOB SUMMARY

Responsible for overseeing sub-fabricators quality programs, the sub-fabrication quality assurance inspector plays a critical role in ensuring we deliver a superior, compliant product fabricated to the job specifications and Cooper Steel’s standards every time.

Responsibilities
  • Promote a strong safety culture internally and externally, maintaining Cooper Steel’s core priorities: Safety, Quality, and Production
  • Visit sub-fabrication shops to monitor and verify adherence to AISC and/or company quality standards, collaborating to prevent and resolve quality issues while promoting continuous improvement
  • Audit sub-fabricators’ quality documentation, including inspection reports, NDT records, welder qualifications, and MTRs, and confirm their maintenance of accurate material traceability and current certifications
  • Manage and communicate inspection results and concerns to the QA Manager and project teams
  • Provide evaluations and recommendations on performance of systems and operations
  • Stay current with relevant AISC, AWS, and ASTM standards
Qualifications
  • 3–5 years of experience in quality or fabrication in the structural steel industry
  • Working knowledge of AISC 207, AISC 360, AISC 303 and AWS D1.1
  • Familiarity with NDT methods, welding processes, and fabrication documentation
  • Ability to read and interpret shop drawings, weld symbols, and specifications
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel regularly to sub-fabricator locations
  • Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) or equivalent certification (preferred)
  • Experience with AISC certification programs and audits (preferred)
  • Strong interpersonal skills, communicating and working effectively with a diverse range of individuals
  • Good judgment and problem-solving skills
  • Comfortable operating in both office and shop settings
  • Detail-oriented, with highly developed functional, technical, and organizational skills
  • Ability to lift up to 75 lbs, use hands for gripping and grasping, and pass specific vision requirements
  • Ability to work flexible hours and willing to work overtime
