Cooper Steel’s Monroe, VA facility seeks a Night Shift Fabrication Supervisor to oversee and optimize fabrication processes on the night shift. You will lead a team of fabricators, ensure adherence to safety and quality standards, and coordinate with QC and other departments to meet production schedules.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • 3-5 years of prior experience in a related field.
  • Experience in both fitting and welding.
  • Strong technical skills; ability to communicate effectively with a diverse range of individuals.

Responsibilities

  • Promote safety, quality, and production priorities across the team.
  • Distribute shop drawings and ensure only latest revisions are used for fabrication.
  • Maintain sequence lists and ensure fabrication meets delivery time constraints.
  • Distribute quality control/part ID tags to correct stations.
  • Assign work pieces to stations to meet production goals considering fitter speed and skill.
  • Ensure materials and bolts are ready for each piece and installation.
  • Assist QC in scheduling inspections and coordinate the process.
  • Monitor progress and push for timely completion at each station.
  • Ensure tools and supplies are available for each assigned piece.
  • Monitor safety and PPE compliance per Cooper Steel standards.
  • Work with other departments to ensure correct materials are processed.
  • Lead teams and maintain professional business relationships.
  • Maintain confidentiality of Cooper Steel activities.

This is a night shift position. Standard working hours are Monday-Thursday 5:30pm - 6:00am.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Night Shift Fabrication Supervisor is responsible for overseeing and maintaining efficient fabrication processes throughout the facility.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Promote a strong quality culture throughout the company maintaining Cooper Steel’s core priorities: Safety, Quality, Production
  • Distribute shop drawings as required to fitting stations. Keep up with revisions and assure only the latest version is being used for fabrication
  • Maintain current sequence lists and ensure fabrication is meeting the time constraints of required deliveries
  • Distribute quality control/part ID tags to the correct fitting station
  • Assign work pieces to each fitting station as required to meet production goals in consideration of the speed and talent level of each fitter
  • Ensure detail material is ready and available for each piece as required before assigning workstations
  • Ensure shop bolts required for assembly are in the shop and ready for installation
  • Assist QC in scheduling and coordinating the inspection process
  • Monitor progress and push for completion of pieces in time by each fitter station
  • Ensure each fitter station has the tools and supplies necessary to complete the piece as assigned
  • Monitor work to ensure it is being performed safely per Cooper Steel safety standards.
  • Ensure PPE is supplied and worn correctly
  • Work with other departments in the shop to ensure the correct material is being processed
  • Act as a positive leader while leading teams and maintaining business relationships
  • Maintain appropriate confidentiality of all Cooper Steel business affairs, internally and outside of the company
  • Other duties as assigned
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Lead, supervise, and support fabrication team members to ensure safety, efficiency, and productivity
  • Monitor daily attendance and address absenteeism, tardiness, and unplanned absences.
  • Provide training, mentoring, and performance feedback to staff.
  • Foster a positive, accountable, and respectful team culture on the shop floor
  • Conduct regular performance evaluations and one-on-one check-ins
  • Act as a first point of contact for employee concerns, grievances, and interpersonal issues.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

High School Diploma or equivalent

3-5 years of prior experience in a related field

Experience in both fitting and welding

OTHER SKILLS:

Strong technical skills; ability to communicate effectively with a diverse range of individuals; good judgment; strong attention to detail; ability to work effectively with others. While performing certain duties of the job, the employee is required to stand, stoop, bend, twist, lift, pull, and reach. Use of hands for gripping and grasping is required. Specific vision abilities are required. Lifting is required for up to 75 lbs. Must be flexible in hours worked and willing to work overtime.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Position performs work mostly in the Shop setting which includes a variety of working conditions. These include the following conditions: noise level fluctuations from moderate to high, use of personal protective equipment, machine/equipment use. Position involves everyday risks or exposure to elements that require safety precautions. Position will be required to work in adverse weather conditions such as heat, humidity, cold, precipitation, etc.
