A stylist-in-training at Regis is a temporary 90-day position designed to integrate an unlicensed, future stylist into the salon workplace and to help them learn the business. It is the stylist-in-training's responsibility to deliver exceptional customer service and to communicate effectively with management, customers, and co-workers. Specifically, the stylist-in-training's job duties include:
- Market and grow the business
- Observe other stylists / managers at work and ask relevant questions
- Provide exceptional customer service
- Control expenses
- Promote and sell services and retail products
- Answer telephones, stock and dust shelves, and sweep hair
- Complete all other duties as assigned by manager
The stylist-in-training may be eligible for a promotion to the stylist position once they receive their license. A promotion is not automatically guaranteed. The stylist-in-training must apply for the stylist position to be considered for promotion. To be considered, the stylist-in-training must:
- Possess a valid appropriate license in their applicable state of employment;
- Have the ability to perform duties permitted by their license, including cutting, styling, coloring, waxing, washing, and perming hair, with or without accommodations;
- Demonstrate adherence to Regis values of honesty, accountability, integrity, and respect.
Qualifications
- Must graduate from an accredited cosmetology school and obtain necessary licenses within or before 90 days of hire
- Ability to work in a dynamic salon environment
- Good time management, judgment, and multi-tasking skills
- Interpersonal skills to communicate professionally and courteously
- Computer knowledge, including POS systems and data entry
- Flexible schedule including nights and weekends
Essential Functions
Market and Grow the Business :
- Promote and sell services and products, recommending additional services and retail items to enhance customer satisfaction
- Understand and convey pricing for services
- Coordinate promotional displays using ShopTalk
- Manage sales to walk-in retail customers
Provide Exceptional Customer Service :
- Understand customer needs, greet professionally, and escort clients within the salon
- Estimate wait times and answer phones promptly
- Handle complaints and refer issues to management
Manage and Control Expenses :
- Follow salon schedules and correctly charge for services and products
- Safeguard assets by adhering to policies
Complete Administrative Tasks / Compliance :
- Assist with salon operations, communicate professionally, maintain safety standards
- Attend mandatory meetings and training
- Handle POS transactions including opening and closing
Physical Requirements and Environment :
- Frequent lifting up to 10 lbs., occasional 10-25 lbs.
- Continuous standing and reaching
- Occasional pushing, pulling, ladder use, and exposure to chemicals
- Ability to communicate with customers and read/write basic documents
- Occasional travel for meetings and training
This is a potential employment opportunity with a franchisee of Regis. If hired, employment is directly with the franchisee, who manages employment matters independently of Regis.
