Job summary

Honolulu Museum of Art seeks a Studio Programs Manager to lead the Studio Programs team. You will set strategy, oversee classes, workshops, and events, and ensure programs connect learners with HoMA’s collection, loans, and exhibitions. The role requires collaboration with educators and artists to develop engaging curricula across campus.

You will recruit and supervise instructors, manage budgets, and partner with schools and cultural organizations to expand access and inclusion in programming.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Art Education or related field; equivalent education/experience.
• Two years of experience teaching art or managing an art program.
• Broad knowledge of art education, object-based learning, and museum practices.
• Effective communication with diverse audiences.
• Two years supervising staff, instructors, or volunteers.
• Experience coordinating programs, lesson planning, and delivering education programs.
• Commitment to social inclusion and accessibility in museums.
• Strong computer skills and willingness to learn new systems and software.
• Honesty, integrity, and strong work ethic; collaborative spirit.

Responsibilities

• Set, model, and advance the vision for Studio Programs.
• Develop and uphold program policies and procedures.
• Maintain knowledge of best practices in art education; apply to planning.
• Recruit, hire, train, and supervise instructors and staff.
• Oversee quality via observations and professional development.
• Collaborate on workshops for Hawai‘i art educators and instructors.
• Lead planning for classes/workshops; set curricula priorities.
• Collaborate with artists to generate new classes; provide curriculum feedback.
• Support evaluation and reporting for Learning and Engagement programs.
• Manage budgets, procurement, and registration processes.
• Build partnerships with schools and community organizations.
