Job summary

News24 is seeking a Studio Manager in Dallas to run on-site studio and technical operations for a U.S. production hub, directing broadcasts with remote Sydney support. You will set up studios, support hosts and guests, and manage live and recorded broadcasts across time zones.

The role requires broad broadcast and technical skills, independence, and the ability to solve problems on the ground with minimal supervision. Reports to the Deputy Head of Operations.

Qualifications

• Broad hands-on broadcast experience across studio, camera, audio and lighting.
• Comfortable being the only operator in the room and making day-to-day calls.

Responsibilities

• Studio operations: Set up, operate and troubleshoot studio and technical equipment, including cameras, lighting, audio and prompter.
• Floor management: Run the floor during recordings and live broadcasts and coordinate with the Sydney control room, technical, and ingest teams and other departments.
• Technical operation: Manage the local signal chain, including the feed to Sydney, the backup path, and the return feeds for vision, talkback and prompter.
• First-line engineering: Be the first point of contact for diagnosing and fixing faults with cameras, audio, lighting encoders and connectivity under time pressure.
• Host broadcaster relationship: Be the day-to-day contact with our co-location partners, engineering, facilities and other teams.
• Equipment and readiness: Keep the studio and its equipment working, manage spares and faults, and flag what you need early.
• Build and commissioning: Support the move from an initial temporary studio to a permanent facility, including supporting installation and testing.
• Standards: Write and follow local operating procedures so the operation is consistent and someone can cover when you are away.
• Growth: Support special coverage and live events as the operation grows.
