About Us:

Onassis ONX is the Onassis Foundation’s global platform for art and advanced technologies. As a catalyst for digital cultures, Onassis ONX empowers creatives who build transformative works, elevating their practice across ideation, development, presentation, and distribution through studios in Athens and New York. This holistic engagement throughout an artistic process enables world building at the frontiers of AI, immersive, spatial computing, gaming, and other emergent time-based media. Onassis ONX then cultivates and engages with a network of institutions and industries ready to respond to these new forms of creative expression and meaningfully engage with audiences around the world.

About the Role:

Onassis ONX is seeking a Studio Intern to shadow and support the Studio Manager and Studio Producer. More details on the types of public programs you will be working on can be found here. This role requires a passion for immersive media, large-scale installations, new media art, and interactive storytelling.

This is an internship with a stipend and school credit available as well.

  • Priority will be given to applicants who have production and set experience, such as working with DMX lighting, multi-channel audio, and projection mapping, or working as a studio assistant elsewhere.
  • Experience with various softwares including TouchDesigner, Motion Capture (Motive, Rokoko, OptiTrack), Unreal/Unity, and running VR installations are a bonus!
  • We will provide training on how to utilize equipment like our motion capture system and building our LED wall, as well as how to utilize equipment like cameras, VR headsets, audio mixers, and software in the studio.

You will gain access to our network of events and opportunities, along with our production resources, which are usually reserved for Onassis ONX Members and Fellows. We hope that you will acquire practical skills for working with artists, curators, and exhibition design teams over the course of your internship, as well as develop your own practice in new media art.

Key Responsibilities:
Program Production

Work with Onassis ONX team during programming which may include both front-of-house and back-of-house duties.

  • There will be an exhibition program from June 4-7 in New York (Screens), and another exhibition in the Fall, serving as a cumulative project over the course of the internship.
  • Work and be present within Onassis ONX’s studio to help build community, interacting and supporting the ONX Community of Members and Fellows, including partner institutions using the space from NEW INC XR Track, the Lincoln Center Collider Fellowship, The Shed, Pioneer Works, Onassis AiR, and MIT OpenDoc Lab.
  • Support artists for studio operation requests, from basic A/V to potentially assisting on projects directly.
  • Help support, develop, and exhibit projects co-produced by Onassis ONX, sometimes off-site at partner institutions.
  • There will be the opportunity to work on long-term projects to improve the new studio, including organizing equipment and inventory systems, contributing to documentation, and exploring new capabilities for the studio.
Administrative Duties
  • Support in archiving and updating a database of studio equipment and resources for public use, as well as making sure things are labelled correctly both digitally and physically.
  • Shadow the Studio Manager as well as other Onassis ONX employees and learn more about day to day operations as well as long term planning at an art institution and exhibition space.
Qualifications:
  • Must be currently enrolled in or a recent graduate of a four-year institution or graduate program (expected graduation 2027 or later preferred). International students on an F-1 visa may apply through CPT or OPT.
  • Passion for working with interactive media and experiential storytelling.
  • 1+ years of experience with lighting, sound, or projection is preferred.
  • Experience with Motion Capture & Unreal or Unity is a bonus!
  • Ability to work in fast-paced environments and adapt to evolving project needs.
