Job summary

One River School of Art + Design in Montclair, NJ is seeking practicing artists and passionate educators who want to introduce young creators (Grades K–12) to contemporary art in exciting, meaningful ways. You’ll lead hands-on weekly classes, explore painting, drawing, sculpture, collage and 3D work, and encourage experimentation to help students grow confident and find their artistic voice.

Materials and a gallery space showcase student work are provided.

Qualifications

  • BFA or BS in Art Education required.
  • MFA or Master’s in Art Education is a plus.
  • 1 year teaching experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead weekly hands-on art classes for K-12 students.

Contemporary Art Teacher K‑12

One River School of Art + Design

$25–$40 per hour

What You’ll Do
  • Lead dynamic, hands‑on weekly art classes for students (Tuesday and Thursday afternoons and evenings)
  • Explore contemporary approaches across painting, drawing, sculpture, collage, mixed media, and 3D work
  • Encourage experimentation, creative risk‑taking, and big imaginative thinking
  • Create “WOW moments” that build confidence and artistic voice
  • Connect thoughtfully with families about student growth and creative breakthroughs

This isn’t craft‑time. It’s real art—made accessible, joyful, and inspiring.
