Job summary

Waubonsee Community College is seeking a Welding Student Worker to assist the Welding Department in maintaining a clean, safe laboratory environment on the Sugar Grove and Plano campuses. You will prepare materials, support labs, and help stock welding supplies while adhering to safety policies.

The role requires a current Waubonsee student enrolled in at least one credit, a minimum 2.0 GPA, and the ability to lift up to 40 pounds.

Qualifications

  • Waubonsee student enrolled in at least one credit.
  • GPA 2.0 or above.
  • Good standing with Student Conduct.
  • SAP requirements.
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Background check required.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Good communication and organization skills.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds and stand for extended periods.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of welding labs, booths, classrooms, and work areas.
  • Prepare materials and supplies for welding laboratory activities.
  • Assist with organizing welding consumables, tools, and equipment.
  • Sort and dispose of scrap materials, recycling, and shop waste per procedures.
  • Help maintain inventory and storage areas.
  • Perform basic housekeeping for a safe learning environment.
  • Assist faculty with shop and lab support tasks as assigned.
  • Follow safety policies and wear PPE.

The Welding Student Worker assists the Welding Department with maintaining a clean, safe, and organized laboratory environment. This position supports faculty and students by preparing materials for lab activities, maintaining welding booths and equipment, and performing a variety of general shop duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Maintain the cleanliness and organization of welding labs, booths, classrooms, and work areas.
  • Prepare materials and supplies for welding laboratory activities.
  • Assist with organizing and stocking welding consumables, tools, and equipment.
  • Sort and dispose of scrap materials, recycling, and shop waste in accordance with department procedures.
  • Help maintain inventory and organize storage areas.
  • Perform basic housekeeping tasks to ensure a safe learning environment.
  • Assist faculty with miscellaneous shop and laboratory support tasks as assigned.
  • Follow all college and departmental safety policies and procedures and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
Work Environment

This position works in a welding laboratory/shop environment at both the Technical Education Center (TEC) on the Sugar Grove Campus and the Plano Campus. The student worker may be exposed to noise, dust, and typical welding shop conditions while following all required safety procedures.

Minimum Qualifications
  • A Waubonsee student enrolled in at least one credit.
  • Have a minimum GPA of 2.0 or above.
  • Be in good standing with Student Conduct.
  • Be making Satisfactory Academic Progress.
  • Must meet Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) requirements.
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Must pass criminal background check.
  • Must have high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Good communication and organization skills.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting up to 40 pounds, standing for extended periods, bending, and moving materials,
  • Basic knowledge of welding equipment and shop safety is preferred but not required.
