Job summary

Eastern Mennonite University in Harrisonburg, Virginia is seeking a Student Employee for the Marketing and Communications department. The role focuses on administrative support, learning opportunities, and creative projects while you pursue your studies.

You will assist with events, images, and social media, performing camera and editing tasks as needed. This position is part-time, hourly, and non-exempt, with duties aligned to student class schedules.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Current EMU undergraduate student status is expected.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential.

Responsibilities

  • Provide excellent customer service to students, faculty, staff, and campus visitors.
  • Answer incoming phone calls and handle inquiries.
  • Perform general administrative duties and assist with projects.
  • Capture, deliver, and archive images for EMU needs.
  • Assist with events outside standard hours and on weekends.
  • Support camera, boom, editing, and video production tasks as needed.
  • Post content on EMU social media evenings and weekends.

Job Title: Student EmployeeDepartment: Marketing and CommunicationsSupervisor: Christopher JonesEmployment Type: Work Study or Work Program; Part-time, hourly, non-exemptPay Range: $13.00 - $13.00Job Summary:The Student Employee is responsible for assisting the staff in the assigned department. The Student Employee position will focus on administrative support, learning support, or specialized support while gaining educational and career growth.Duties/Responsibilities:Provide excellent customer service to students, faculty, staff, and campus visitors.Answer incoming phone calls.Perform a variety of administrative and/or office duties.Provide assistance and support to faculty and/or staff in completing special projects as assigned.Perform general administrative responsibilities in support of the department/office/campus.Complete department-specific projects as assigned.Attends to the workplace regularly, reports to work punctually, and follows a work schedule to keep up with the demands of the worksite.Supports the values of the University.Additional duties and responsibilities as assignedPosition Specific Duties/Responsibilities/Skills/Abilities:Capture, deliver, and archive images which support EMU’s needs across various mediums.Assist with events outside the traditional 9-5 workday.Assist as a camera operator, boom operator, editor, etc.. as needed on video productions.Assist and have knowledge of graphic design, videography, and photography.Invest time in posting on the social media site in the evenings and during the weekends.Required Skills/Abilities:Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.Ability to make entry-level decisions.Demonstrate good interpersonal and communication skills.Willingness to ask questions.Understand basic department procedures.Ability to maintain a level of professionalism during working hours.Has a genuine desire to help their peers succeed.Be currently enrolled as an undergraduate student at EMU.Education/Experience:High School diplomaPhysical Requirements:While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to sit and use hands and fingers, to handle, or feel. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, and climb or balance and climb ladders. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.
