Job summary

Dallas International University is seeking a Part-Time Student Wellbeing Adviser to provide mental health and spiritual support to students on campus. You will work with the Dean of Students and Student Support staff to address student needs and foster spiritual formation.

The role involves direct student meetings, developing personal wellbeing plans, referrals to licensed professionals when needed, and coordinating regular wellbeing activities in a Christian university setting.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree is required.
• Certification as life coach, biblical counselor, pastoral counselor; or LPC/LMFT licensure is acceptable.

Responsibilities

• Meet with students to provide support and guidance in mental health and wellbeing topics.
• Develop and implement personal wellbeing plans with students.
• Refer to licensed counselors or psychiatric services when needed.
• Collaborate with the Dean of Students, RA staff, and faculty to address student needs.
• Facilitate growth opportunities in mental health and spiritual formation.
• Coordinate monthly RA/Dean meetings and serve as contact for RA concerns.
• Manage resources database for mental health and spiritual growth.
• Maintain a database of organizations for student career/internship opportunities.

Job Overview

The Student Wellbeing Adviser plays a key role in ensuring that graduate and undergraduate students have the mental health and spiritual support they need in order to thrive at DIU. The Student Wellbeing Adviser meets with students to provide direct support, works closely with the Dean of Students and members of Student Support staff to identify and address student needs, and facilitates opportunities for student learning and growth in areas related to spiritual formation and mental health.

Responsibilities ii

• Meet with students to provide support and guidance in mental health and wellbeing topics (e.g., coping with stress and anxiety, developing healthy communication patterns, maintaining healthy boundaries, working through complex emotions, improving self-talk).
• Work with students to develop and implement personal plans to improve wellbeing.
• Help students access professional resources (licensed counselors or psychiatric services) when necessary.
• Work with RA staff, the Dean of Students, and faculty members to identify and address student needs.
• Facilitate regular opportunities for growth in practical life skills, mental health, and spiritual formation among students.
• Facilitate monthly meetings for RA's, Dean of Students, and Student Support personnel and serve as point of contact for RA concerns.
• Coordinate prayer partnerships between students and faculty and staff.
• Maintain a curated database of mental health and spiritual growth resources for students.
• Maintain a database of mission sending organizations with current contact information for students seeking career or internship opportunities.
• Other duties as requested by the Dean of Students.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree
• Certification as life coach, biblical counselor, or pastoral counselor; or licensure as professional counselor (LPC) or marriage and family therapist (LMFT)
• Cross-cultural experience preferred
• Strong listening skills and ability to empathize with others
• Ability to provide helpful, practical advice when appropriate
• Ability to help clients develop and implement plans to improve their own wellbeing
• Ability to maintain client confidentiality and adhere to standard counseling ethics
• Knowledge of common mental and emotional health issues and ability to convey necessary information about such topics to clients
• Knowledge of resources available to students

Hours

• Part-time during DIU Office hours which are 9 am - 5 pm, Monday-Friday

Physical Requirements

Good physical health is required.
