Qualifications

• Possess and maintain a valid Alabama bus driver license (ABL) and CDL with P/S endorsement.
• Maintain a current Alabama School Bus Physical or ALDOT Health Card as required by state law.
• Ability to meet suitability criteria under Alabama Child Protection Act and related laws.
• Possess and maintain an acceptable motor vehicle record.
• Ability to pass drug test.
• Proficient in written and verbal communication.
• Ability to operate a school vehicle on assigned routes with a defined schedule (early mornings/dusk).
• Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds and exert 50 pounds of force.
• Ability to perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections and bus evacuations.
• Maintain regular attendance and punctuality.
• Other board-approved alternatives may be considered.

Responsibilities

• Adheres to traffic laws and driving safety rules.
• Prepares monthly school bus reports as required.
• Submits accident reports when involved in an accident.
• Conducts daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections.
• Maintains a clean bus and orderly student discipline on board.
• Reports discipline problems to the appropriate authority.
• Notifies supervisor of mechanical failures or lateness and follows procedures.
• Transports students to field trips and events as assigned.
• Cares for equipment and adheres to state and federal regulations.
