Job summary

Nassau County School District Transportation Dept. in Yulee, Florida is seeking a Bus Aide. The position supports loading/unloading students, securing belts and restraints, and assisting the driver to keep order on the bus.

Requires a high school diploma or equivalent, and experience or training in caring for children is preferred. Veterans’ preference applies for eligible veterans and spouses in compliance with laws.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Experience or training in the care of children preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the loading and unloading of students at the bus stop and at school.
• Ensure student seat belts and / or safety harnesses are properly secured.
• Assist the bus driver in maintaining good order on the bus.
• Operate the wheelchair lift and secure the wheelchair when required.
• Carry non-ambulatory students when required.
• Assist the bus driver with emergency evacuations including evacuation drills.
• Maintain a working knowledge of the history of each student in order to recognize indications of illness and respond accordingly.
• Establish and maintain good rapport with students, parents, bus driver, teachers and others.
• Assist with all written reports as required.
• Assist in cleaning bus as required.
• Perform other incidental tasks consistent with the goals and objectives of this position.
