Overview

Arts & Sciences Learning Design & Technology Department seeks Student Testing Proctors to support the Computer-Based Testing Facility (CBTF) during the Fall 2026 term. Students play a critical role in delivering secure, high-quality testing experiences for students and faculty, including computer‑based exams, paper‑based exams, and SDAC‑accommodated testing. The position is secure and high‑demand with responsibilities that ensure exam integrity, procedural fidelity, and customer service.

Responsibilities
  • Demonstrate reliability, professionalism, and commitment to academic integrity.
  • Maintain strong attention to detail and work in a secure, high‑responsibility environment.
  • Accurately and consistently follow detailed written and verbal instructions.
  • Strong communication skills and comfort supporting peers and faculty.
  • Proctor computer‑based and paper‑based exams at the CBTF and other on‑ground locations.
  • Support secure exam delivery, maintaining test integrity, confidentiality, and student privacy at all times.
  • Provide direct support to student testers, including check‑in, instructions, troubleshooting, and monitoring during exams.
  • Serve as front‑line support for faculty clients delivering exams, including communicating procedures and returning exam materials.
  • Run exams end‑to‑end: room set‑up, student check‑in, exam support, documentation/reports, clean‑up, and post‑exam procedures.
  • Maintain a clean, quiet, and orderly testing environment.
  • Accurately apply center processes and procedures for different exam types and accommodations.
  • Adapt to a flexible schedule based on testing demand and faculty needs.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with students, faculty, and CBTF staff.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement by providing feedback, identifying issues, and suggesting process enhancements to supervisors/leadership.
  • Complete required administrative tasks (e.g., scheduling support, handling exam materials, basic clerical work).
  • Attend all required training sessions before working independently.
Qualifications
  • Current undergraduate UVA student in good academic standing.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team.
  • Commitment to confidentiality and academic integrity.
Work Hours and Compensation

Undergraduate students may work up to 20 hours per week during the semester. Minimum availability is 6+ hours per week during the semester. During high‑volume testing periods (midterms and finals) students can expect 8–10 hours per week, depending on demand. The schedule may vary by week and may include mornings, afternoons, or evenings.

Compensation is $17.00 per hour. Graduate students may be eligible for higher pay based on responsibilities. Federal Work Study students are encouraged to apply.

Physical Demands

This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job may occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings and programs.
