Job Description

This recruitment will be used to fill 10 part‑time (maximum of 24 hours per week) Student Technical Assistant positions for the Department of Food Science and Technology at Oregon State University (OSU) in the OSU Creamery. Position duties to be determined by the hiring unit, but may include cleaning, preparation, operations and sales of products routine to the Beaver Classic food truck. Attending and operating food truck and catering events, including driving the truck or other transportation vehicles, working in a high‑speed service environment and serving customers, handling cash and/or tickets at varying events. Prepare, collect equipment for events, set up and break down events Cleaning and sanitizing equipment and workspaces as the during events, ensuring the truck meets Benton County health standards Working with clients to ensure events are executed as planned and sales are tracked accurately

  • Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study
  • Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment
  • Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard
  • High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home‑schooling program
  • Undergraduate and post‑baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term
  • Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term*
  • Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term
  • Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term*
  • *International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered “full‑time” by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by the Office of International Services (OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.

  • The candidate must be able to communicate effectively in both written and oral English
  • This position is designated as a critical or security‑sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per OSU Standard 576-055-0000 et seq. Incumbents are required to self‑report convictions and those in youth programs may have additional criminal history checks every 24 months.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior food service or other customer service experience

Working Conditions
  • Required to obtain an Oregon Food Handlers Card within 15 days of employment
  • Expected to work frequent evening and weekend hours, as required, to support production needs
  • Will be working in a fast-paced environment, often required to lift more than 50 lbs
  • Lift, push, pull and carry items weighing 50-100 lab repeatedly
  • May require walking, standing, bending and stooping for extended periods
  • May require working with or around cleaning chemicals
  • Required to attend staff meetings, supervisory meetings and professional development sessions
  • Shift and/or work assignments may be changed based on operational needs
