Job summary

SUNY Upstate Medical University is seeking a Student Surgical Technologist (SST) to support the operating room team. You will shadow in Central Sterile, assist with room setup, decontamination, and case picking, and learn proper handling of sterile items under supervision.

Schedule includes day/evening shifts and a capped 29 hours per week. As an active Surgical Technology student in good standing, you will gain hands-on experience while completing prerequisites and obtaining CPR/BLS

Qualifications

• Current Surgical Technology student in an accredited program.
• Prerequisites must be completed.
• CPR/BLS certification required.
• Letter from program director stating good standing and a recommendation letter preferred.

Responsibilities

• Shadow in Central Sterile to learn decontamination, scope processing, tray organization, wrapping, and sterilization.
• Assist with room turnovers and terminal cleaning, patient transport, and running for blood.
• Learn to pick cases with case picking and assist as second scrub.
• Under supervision, perform surgical scrub, gown and glove, and assist surgical team.
