Job summary

Red Hill Elementary School in Colorado is seeking a Student Support Specialist to support English Language Development and assist instruction aligned with district learner outcomes and state standards.

The role supervises students, adapts instruction for ELL learners, and collaborates with content and ELA teachers using SIOP strategies. The position involves teaching RE50J curriculum per lesson plans and maintaining positive student relations.

Qualifications

• Active Colorado teaching license or substitute authorization.

Responsibilities

• Support content teachers to meet the needs of students.
• Work with ELA teachers on SIOP strategies to support students in content classes.
• Teach the Eagle County School District RE50J curriculum based on lesson plans provided by the regular classroom teacher.
• Assess student work when appropriate and time permits.
• Promote and maintain student behavior expectations conducive to learning, maximizing learning time.
• Establish and demonstrate positive relationships with students, parents, staff and community.
• Ensure the security and confidentiality of student information.
• Comply with district policies and procedures including meeting with assigned students at scheduled location/time.
• Utilize SAM system to manage work schedule as a guest teacher.
• Other duties as assigned.

SUMMARY OF JOB DESCRIPTION:
Supports instruction and assessment aligned with District learner outcomes and State achievement standards. Supervises assigned students and maintain a positive learning environment. Adapts instruction to meet the learner needs of all students with, focus being on ELL students, increasing the probability of advancing their achievement. Maintains positive inter-personal relationships with students, parents, staff, and community members.

SUPERVISED BY: School Principal/Assistant Principal

ESSENTIAL JOB ELEMENTS:

• Support thecontent teachers to meet the needs ofstudents.
• Work with ELA teachers on SIOP strategies to support the needs of students in content classes.
• Teach the approved Eagle County School District RE50J curriculum based on lesson plans provided by the regular classroom teacher.
• Assess student work when appropriate and time permits.
• Promote and maintain student behavior expectations conducive to learning, and maximizes learning time.
• Establish and demonstrate positive human relations with students, parents, other staff members, and the community.
• Ensure the accuracy, completeness, confidentiality, and security of all student information.
• Comply with District and School policies and procedures including meeting with assigned students at scheduled location and time.
• Utilize the Substitute Absence Management/SAM system to accept/decline/manage his/her work and schedule in the capacity of a guest teacher.
• Other duties as assigned.
