SUMMARY OF JOB DESCRIPTION: Provides instructional and academic support to students with moderate/mild special education needs, with a focus on supporting English Language Learners (ELL). Works collaboratively with classroom teachers to adapt instruction, support student progress, and promote a positive and inclusive learning environment aligned with district and state standards.

ESSENTIAL JOB ELEMENTS:

Instructional Support

• Support classroom teachers in meeting the academic and instructional needs of students.
• Deliver instruction based on teacher-provided lesson plans and district curriculum.

ELL & Special Education Support

• Collaborate with teachers to implement SIOP (Sheltered Instruction Observation Protocol) strategies.
• Provide targeted support for English Language Learners in content classes.
• Support students with moderate/mild disabilities in accessing grade-level curriculum.

Assessment & Student Progress

• Assess and monitor student work as appropriate.
• Provide feedback to teachers regarding student progress and needs.
• Support data collection and documentation related to student learning.

Classroom Environment & Behavior

• Promote and maintain a positive, structured learning environment.
• Support student behavior expectations and maximize instructional time.
• Build positive relationships with students to support engagement and success.

Communication & Collaboration

• Maintain positive relationships with students, parents, staff, and community members.
• Collaborate regularly with teachers, support staff, and administration.
• Maintain confidentiality and security of student information.

Professional Responsibilities

• Comply with district and school policies and procedures.
• Manage work assignments and scheduling through the Substitute Absence Management (SAM) system, as applicable.
