Job summary

Barnstable Public Schools is seeking a Personal Care Teacher Assistant to support teachers in K-12 school settings at Barnstable United Elementary School. The role involves assisting individual students or small groups, reinforcing learning, and participating in behavior and health-related tasks as needed.

Responsibilities include maintaining confidentiality, following safety protocols, and coordinating with teachers and the nurse to support student growth.

Qualifications

• Physical condition to manage behavior/physically challenged students; must have the ability to lift 50 pounds.
• Basic understanding of child growth and development.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrate ethical behavior and maintain confidentiality of student information.
• Current restraint program certification.
• Work with individual students or small groups to reinforce learning of material or skills initially introduced by the teacher.
• Guide independent study, enrichment work, and remedial work set up and assigned by the teacher.
• Implement student behavior plans.
• Awareness of identified student health concerns, monitor/assist as appropriate in collaboration with teacher and nurse.
• Toileting/personal care/hygiene, when necessary.
• Awareness of student-assistance protocol.
• Assist with collecting, maintaining, and organizing data and portfolios, and/or work samples of student(s).
• Assist student(s) with organization of desk, homework, class work and materials.
• When applicable, consult daily with teachers and other service providers.
• Facilitate student(s) social interaction.
• Other duties as assigned by the teacher or Principal.
