Job summary

Capital Area Intermediate Unit is seeking a full-time paraprofessional for the Middletown, PA area to support professional staff in meeting student needs.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED, and certification as a Qualified Paraprofessional (or willingness to obtain). CPR/First Aid training and the ability to lift up to 40 lbs are essential, with proficiency in Microsoft Office. Schedule is weekdays, 7.5 hours, 190 days per year.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Experience with special needs population desired.
• Must be certified as Qualified Paraprofessional or able to become within timelines.
• Must be trained in CPR, First Aid, AED and SCM or able to obtain training.
• Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs.
• Computer skills including Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities

• Works with the teacher as a team member in the educational and social development of the assigned student.
• Assists the teacher in developing and maintaining a positive environment.
• Acts as a positive social and emotional model for the student.
• Performs instructional activities and monitors the results under the teacher's direction.
• Assists the teacher in behavior management per policies and procedures.
• Performs CPR, First Aid, and/or proper child restraint techniques as needed.
• Provides input on student progress, needs and areas for support.
• Maintains confidentiality per FERPA and CAIU policies.
• Assists in meeting personal care needs and helps with transporting student as needed.
• Performs clerical and housekeeping duties as required.
• Follows the teacher's authority while supporting instructional programs.
• Builds positive relationships with staff and external partners.
• Prepares materials and displays as directed.
• Adheres to schedule and attendance policies.
