Job summary

Norwich Public Schools is seeking a Student Support Liaison at Teachers' Memorial Middle School in Norwich, CT. The role supports student engagement and non-instructional needs, under supervision of school administrators and certified staff.

The position requires a bachelor’s degree in a related field and experience with children in school settings. It is full-time, grant-funded, 7.5 hours/day, with a starting date of immediate. Salary is $35 per hour.

Responsibilities

  • Provide assistance to students experiencing difficulty staying focused or remaining in class, including escorting and re-engaging students as needed.
  • Support staff in helping students return to academic activities after a break or behavioral incident.
  • Communicate with teachers and staff to relay updates on student needs and return-to-class plans.
  • Maintain basic documentation (e.g., student check-ins, parent contact logs) under the direction of certified personnel.
  • Supervise students in shared school spaces such as hallways, cafeterias, and during arrival and dismissal.
  • Assist with ensuring smooth transitions during non-instructional times throughout the day.
  • Offer one-on-one or small group support to students who need additional presence or redirection to stay on task (non-instructional).
  • Support students in staying organized and completing assigned work, without direct instruction or grading.
  • Serve as a liaison between students and staff to promote awareness of student needs and help facilitate a supportive environment.
  • Participate in team meetings or planning sessions as needed, in a non-decision-making, support capacity.
  • Perform other non-instructional duties as assigned by administrators or designated staff.

General Description: The Student Support Liaison works under the supervision of school administrators and certified staff to provide consistent student engagement support throughout the school day. This position assists with non-instructional student needs, logistical coordination, and reinforcement of daily routines. The role includes helping students remain engaged in class, communicating with staff about student needs, and supporting smooth school operations during transitions and other non-academic periods.

Note: This position is part of the school’s commitment to sustained improvement under the Commissioner’s Network. The Student Support Liaison will be an integral part of the school’s efforts to create a stable, responsive learning environment that prioritizes student achievement and whole-child development.

  • Performing the job duties of this position requires the following physical demands: reaching, some lifting, standing, walking, carrying, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, sitting, and/or crawling.
  • Move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom equipment.
  • May require occasional lifting of materials or equipment under 25 lbs.
  • Work primarily occurs indoors during the school day with occasional outdoor supervision duties. Occasional exposure to sun, heat, cold, and inclement weather.

Terms of Employment: Full-time (Commissioner's Network Grant-Funded); Non-Certified; Non-Instructional Support Staff; 7.5 hours/day (plus .5 unpaid lunch) , school-based, 10-month position. Hours to be determined by the building principal.

Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of support services.

Salary: $35.00/hr
