Job summary

The University of North Carolina Greensboro seeks a part-time peer support specialist for its Comprehensive Transition and Postsecondary Education program. This role involves providing vital academic and social skills support to students with intellectual disabilities, working directly with them for a total of 15 hours per week. Ideal candidates will have an in-progress Bachelor’s degree related to social or human services, and experience in mentoring or tutoring is preferred.

Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit

UNC Greensboro supports students with intellectual and developmental disabilities through a Comprehensive Transition and Postsecondary Education ( CTPE ) program while enrolled in Integrative Community Studies, a four-year certificate that emphasizes self-determination, life planning, and career development. Students completing requirements for graduation receive a certificate in Integrative Community Studies, awarded by the Office of the Provost at UNCG . The CTPE Office provides academic coursework and instruction; coordination and support with academic and student affairs units across campus; and direct 1:1 academic and student life support.

Position Summary

This position will be 1:1 (peer to peer) student support for 15 hours per week with 5 hours per week of administrative support and/or planning/scheduling. This position works directly with students (with intellectual disabilities) enrolled in the Integrative Community Studies ( ICS )/Beyond Academics Certificate program. Examples of support provided may include (but are not limited to) academic support, social skills support, and/or living skills support.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in progress in a related field (social/human services, education, etc.)
