Job summary

The House of The Good Shepherd in Utica, NY, seeks a Full-Time Student Support Specialist to provide crisis support for students and promote a positive environment. The role emphasizes Cornell TCI techniques and proactive behavior management within the school program.

You will maintain logs and reports, train staff, and collaborate with teachers and residential programs to ensure safety and policy compliance. Requires NYS driver’s license and relevant certifications.

Qualifications

• 1-year experience in behavior management or related position
• First Aid and CPR
• TCI training at Cornell University required
• Seven Commitments of Sanctuary Model

Responsibilities

• Serve as resource in behavior management using Cornell TCI techniques for staff.
• Maintain up-to-date time-out logs, restraint records and incident reports per NYSED and HGS policy.
• Provide ongoing support and training on Cornell TCI and behavior management techniques.
• Utilize time-out procedures, ensuring Life Space Interview before class return.
• Attend weekly staff and program planning meetings; participate in BIP meetings.
• Assist teachers with behavior management in crisis situations per policy and Cornell TCI.
• Cooperate with residential programs per Daily Student Record (DSR).
• Enforce school rules and supervise In-School Suspension.
• Participate in destruction process and forward docs to Q.I Dept.
• Pursue Cornell TCI trainer certification and train staff as needed.
• Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
