Job summary

The City of New York Department of Education is seeking a 2026-2027 School Aide for The Ditmas in Brooklyn. The role supports teachers by handling routine tasks and supervising students during arrival, dismissal, lunch and drills.

Hours are Monday through Friday with a minimum of 4 hours per day, five days weekly. Bilingual candidates may be considered for language needs; no high school diploma is required for consideration.

Qualifications

• Attendance and punctuality are essential.
• Ability to work under supervision and with school staff.
• Demonstrated good interpersonal relations and teamwork.
• Capacity to carry out routine assignments efficiently.

• Able to stand/walk for long periods and lift up to 10 lbs.
• Experience with students and maintaining high expectations.

Responsibilities

• Relieve teachers of activities not requiring teaching or professional skills.
• Relieve in yard, hall, lunchroom, study hall and monitorial duties.
• Handle and distribute textbooks and supplies.
• Assist with routine clerical tasks.
• Maintain order in lunchroom and supervise lunch service.
• Assist with school clerical work.
• Check reports, library lists, etc.
• Oversee arrival/departure of bus children.
• Greet children, guide handwashing, lunch line, and disposal of wraps.
• Supervise all daily activities including entry, dismissal and drills.
