Job summary

City of New York's Department of Education seeks a School Aide for District 26 in Bayside, NY. Under supervision, aides relieve teachers of non-teaching tasks, assist with lunch, clerical work, and student supervision.

Qualifications

• No High School Diploma or GED required.
• Excellent record of attendance and punctuality.
• Demonstrated ability to work with supervisors and school staff.
• Demonstrated history of good human relations.
• Ability to walk or stand for long periods.
• Ability to lift objects weighing no more than 10 lbs.
• Experience with students, preferably high school-age.
• Bilingual candidates may be considered for language needs.
• Hard-working, urgent, and energetic.

Responsibilities

• Relieves teachers of activities not requiring teaching or professional skills.
• Relieves in yard, hall, lavatory, study hall and monitorial duties.
• Handles, stores and distributes textbooks and supplies.
• Assists with routine clerical work.
• Maintains order in lunchroom and aids lunch service.
• Checks reports, notes, and lists.
• Accepts arrival/departure of bus transportation.
• Receives children and assists with lunch routines.
• Oversees lunch service and returns of dishes.
• Supervises daily activities including entry, dismissal, lunch, and drills.
