Qualifications

• Transcript documentation Associate's Degree or two years of college (72 quarter hours) or passed the Highly Qualified Paraprofessional Assessment test
• 18 years of age or older
• Ability to work harmoniously with others and to communicate effectively with students and staff
• Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
• Ability to maintain confidentiality
• Ability to supervise students in instructional settings without constant teacher oversight; work in a team
• Ability to work in an environment that can be physically and emotionally fatiguing; perform physically demanding requirements
• Possess knowledge of English usage, mathematics, and basic understanding of the subjects assisted
• Ability to type accurately; operate standard office equipment
• Ability to work with students who may exhibit aggressive or disruptive behavior
• Demonstrate standards of moral character and behavior
• Alternative requirements as deemed appropriate by School Board
• Perform physical requirements including standing, walking, bending, lifting
• Moderate physical stamina

Responsibilities

• Assist teachers in planning and implementing learning experiences for students
• Assist in developing instructional materials and reinforcing material based on individual needs
• Assist in instruction in group or one-on-one settings, often without direct supervision
• Maintain ethical behavior and confidentiality of information
• Monitor classroom management according to District discipline procedures
• Supervise students in and outside of the classroom for a safe environment
• Perform clerical functions and student record keeping
• Assist with supervision during drills, assemblies, and play periods
• Assist with large group activities such as reading aloud
• Read to students and participate in oral communication with students
• Check notebooks, correct papers, supervise testing and make-up work
• Handle discipline problems per district procedures
• Alert teacher to problems about individual students
• Serve as information source for substitutes
• Participate in in-service programs
• Act as a friendly ambassador for the North Bend School District
• Perform other tasks as assigned by administration
