Job summary

New York City Department of Education seeks a part-time school monitor to support teachers by handling routine tasks and supervising students during the day.

Under supervision, you will relieve teachers of non-teaching duties, assist with lunch service and clerical work, and help maintain a safe, orderly environment for high school students. This role offers daytime hours across schools with flexible shifts and opportunities to work closely with faculty and students.

Qualifications

• No High School Diploma or GED required
• Excellent attendance and punctuality
• Ability to work with supervisors and school staff
• Good human relations
• Ability to carry out assignments efficiently
• Bilingual candidates may be considered for language needs
• Ability to walk or stand for long periods
• Ability to lift objects weighing no more than 10 lbs
• Experience working with students, preferably high school-age
• Ability to hold high school students to high expectations
• Team player with a strong sense of personal responsibility
• Hard-working, urgent, and energetic

Responsibilities

• Relieves teachers of school activities which do not require teaching or other professional skills
• Relieves teachers such as yard, hall, lavatory, study hall and other monitorial and patrol duties
• Handles, stores, and distributes textbooks, instructional supplies and special materials
• Assists with clerical work of a routine nature
• Assists in maintaining order in the lunchroom and facilitates lunch service
• Assists with school clerical work of a routine nature
• Checks reports, notes, library lists, etc.
