Job summary

New York City Department of Education seeks a part-time school monitor at PS 120 in Brooklyn to support teachers by handling non-teaching tasks, supervising students, and assisting with clerical duties. You will manage lunch periods, arrival and dismissal, and help maintain order throughout the school day.

Anticipated schedule is Monday–Friday with a minimum of 4 hours per day; [fingerprinting/background check] per DOE policy and final budget confirm need.

Qualifications

• No High School Diploma or GED required.
• Excellent record of attendance and punctuality.
• Demonstrated ability to work with supervisors and school staff.
• Demonstrated history of good human relations.
• Ability to carry out assignments efficiently.
• Bilingual candidates may be considered for language needs.
• Ability to stand for long periods and lift up to 10 lbs.
• Experience with students, preferably high school-age.

Responsibilities

• Relieves teachers of non-teaching tasks under supervision.
• Relieves in yard, hall, lavatory, study hall and monitorial duties.
• Handles, stores, and distributes textbooks and supplies.
• Assists with routine clerical work.
• Assists in lunchroom order and lunch service.
• Checks reports and library lists.
• Supervises arrival/departure of bus students.
• Receives and guides children at lunch and lines up for lunch.
• Facilitates lunch service and oversees dish disposal.
• Supervises daily activities including entry, dismissal, lunch and drills.
• Performs additional duties as requested by teachers or principals.
