Job summary

Kentwood Public Schools is seeking an Academic Interventionist to reinforce learning in reading, language arts, mathematics, and computer instruction. The role involves small-group work, assisting with assessments, and supporting instructional materials for diverse learners within a structured school setting.

You will participate in IEP processes and help with parent communication, while maintaining a safe and supportive classroom environment. Regular attendance is required.

Qualifications

• Requires 90 college credits from an accredited college or university.
• Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Michigan teaching certificate preferred.
• Experience working with students with diverse learning needs.
• Understanding of curriculum development processes.
• Ability to support general education instructional staff.
• Able to develop and maintain positive relationships with staff, students, and administration.

Responsibilities

• Assist and guide students to reinforce reading, language arts, mathematics, computer instruction, and other skills.
• Work with students individually and in small groups to reinforce basic learning and implement programs.
• Assist staff in administration and correction of classroom exercises, tests and assessments.
• Assist in classroom preparations and strategies for reinforcing instructional materials and skills.
• Assist with record-keeping to document student learning and performance.
• Assist with classroom behavioral management to maintain safe, orderly environment.
• Supervise non-instructional activities (lunch, bus duty, playground, etc.).
• Accompany students on field trips for supervision.
• Create, copy, distribute, and use educational materials as needed.
• Assist with parent contact to foster involvement in student education.
• Support students with special needs to maximize inclusion and achievement.
• Participate in IEP processes as needed.
• Assist students with disabilities with activities of daily living to maximize participation.
• Follow safety rules and procedures in all student interactions.
• Maintain regular, reliable attendance.
