Job summary

The Resource Counselor at Hendry Success Academy supports students in grades 6-12 who attend as an alternative to expulsion. The role guides students through coursework, ensures they meet terms of agreements, and engages with district staff to facilitate success and potential re-entry into home schools.

Collaborating with four secondary schools and community partners, the counselor builds rapport, tracks progress, and connects students with social-emotional and behavioral supports as needed.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; college coursework preferred.
• Minimum of two years working with at-risk youth, preferably in education or alternative settings.
• Strong understanding of adolescent development and learning challenges.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal and de-escalation skills.
• Ability to track data, maintain records and generate reports.
• Knowledge of curriculum and instructional strategies for diverse learners.

Responsibilities

• Provide academic support to grades 6-12 and monitor student progress.
• Communicate progress with parents and facilitate access to online learning tools.
• Help students develop study habits, time management and self-advocacy.
• Track attendance, behavior and progress relative to agreement terms.
• Serve as liaison between Hendry Success Academy and district discipline administrators.
• Connect students with social-emotional and mental health supports.
• Document interactions in student records and report to leadership.
• Participate in review meetings, hearings and transition planning when needed.
