Job summary

Squaxin Island Tribe's Education Department seeks a Student Advocate to work closely with students, families and the Shelton School District to support positive educational outcomes, improved reading, writing and math, and high school completion.

The role focuses on mentoring students, assisting with attendance, connecting families to community resources, attending IEP meetings with permission, and collaborating with teachers and staff to tailor interventions that help students reach their goals.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Education or related field, OR an Associate’s Degree in a related field and 2 years of relevant experience, OR a High School Diploma/GED and 4 years of relevant experience.
• Demonstrated knowledge of core subject areas; strong written and oral communication; ability to maintain confidentiality; organize tasks and set priorities; adapt to changes.

Responsibilities

• Provide individual and small group academic support
• Track grades and attendance; intervene when needed
• Collaborate with Squaxin Island Education Director and staff to serve families
• Mentor students to build resiliency and organizational skills
• Attend IEP meetings with permission of student and guardian
• Provide referrals to community services (behavioral health, family services)
• Maintain weekly tracking data and monthly reports to Education Director
• Work with Parks and Recreation Department during school breaks and summer programs
• Attend trainings to improve skills relevant to the role
