Job summary

Albertus Magnus College seeks an Academic Advisor to proactively advise traditional undergraduate students, helping them engage with academics and activities, understand career pathways, and improve retention and degree completion. The role involves collaboration with academic departments and the Holistic Advising team and may include teaching sections of the first-year seminar.

The advisor will refer students to tutoring, counseling, and financial assistance resources, supporting student

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in psychology, social work, higher education, or related field preferred.
  • Two years of previous experience in academic advising preferred.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, interpersonal skills, and organizational skills are required.
  • Computer literacy, including Word processing, Excel spreadsheets, and database management, are required.
  • Experience working with Colleague and Navigate preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Meet with assigned new and returning students regularly to develop and monitor educational plans and success goals.
  • Provide students with information regarding support resources, both academic and personal.
  • Collaborate with faculty mentors of the assigned students.
  • Serve as a liaison between the students' administrative offices: business, registrar, and financial aid offices.
  • Actively participate in New Student Orientation and related events, and teach CC 102: College Success Seminar as needed.
  • Monitor student attendance, navigate alerts, and progress reports.
  • Keep up to date with advising best practices through professional development opportunities.
