Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree and one year experience in student services or a related function.
• Knowledge of college policies, procedures and resources.
• Interpersonal and communication skills; ability to work with students, faculty and community.

Responsibilities

• Advise students on academic careers including certificate, graduation, transfer and major requirements.
• Assist students with establishing academic goals and selecting courses to meet goals; use test scores to discuss appropriate class levels.
• Provide initial assessment of transcripts and forward transcripts to admissions and records office.
• Provide guidance relating to complaint and discrimination policies.
• Refer students to special services or outside counseling or testing services.
• Assist students with career searches and referrals to resources.
• Assist students with completion of forms to meet educational goals.
• Maintain and update student databases based on counseling appointments and contacts.
• Advise on matriculation processes and refer to specialists as needed; maintain caseload of new and continuing students.
• Participate in community outreach programs.
• Assist with transfer goal achievement and university applications; keep knowledge of university systems.
• Score personality and interest inventories; ensure counseling testing software is installed.
• Update handouts and forms as necessary.
• Provide advising support for programs such as health career, EOP&S, financial aid and others as assigned.
• Participate in graduation preparation activities and ensure graduation forms are completed.
• Maintain budgets for assigned activities; present to students, faculty and community.
