Job summary

Upper Crust Food Service in Gainesville, FL is seeking a Student Steward to support busy kitchens on campus and in dining programs. You will help keep the kitchen clean, stock stations, and assist with prep as needed, gaining hands-on experience in a fast-paced restaurant environment.

Ideal candidates are reliable, able to stand long hours, lift up to 50 pounds, and have or be willing to obtain a food safety certification within 30 days. Prior dishwashing experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• High school or vocational coursework in kitchen basics, such as food safety, preferred.
• Food safety handler and sanitation certification, or ability to obtain one within 30 days of employment.
• Ability to pass a background check.
• Previous restaurant dishwashing experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Keep the kitchen and dining room clean and sanitary
• Wash utensils, equipment, and dishes by machine or by hand
• Put away clean dishware, glassware, flatware, pots, and pans
• Stock supplies at serving stations, cupboards, refrigerators, and salad bars
• Sweep and wash floors
• Sort and remove trash to designated pickup areas
• Help with food prep duties as directed, such as salad bar and cold dishes
• Help unload and put away deliveries
• Communicate regularly with management by phone, email, and text
• Ability to work well as part of a team
• Working knowledge of operating a commercial dishwasher
• Familiarity with industry best practices

The Role

Student Stewards keep the kitchen clean, stocked, and running the way it should - washing dishes, putting away deliveries, and pitching in on prep when needed. This is a role for someone who wants hands-on kitchen experience, works well on a team, and takes clean seriously.

Chef's Notes

• The work environment can be loud and busy, with kitchen hazards such as hot surfaces and liquids, sharp knives, and slippery floors
• Exposure to extreme heat or cold is possible depending on the kitchen environment
• Required to stand for long periods, up to 8+ hours, as well as walk, bend, and stoop
• Must be able to lift and/or move objects up to 50 pounds
• Exposure to cleaning chemicals
