Job summary

Upper Crust Food Service on college campuses is seeking Student Stewards to help keep kitchens clean, stocked, and running smoothly. You will wash utensils, put away deliveries, and pitch in on prep when needed, gaining hands-on kitchen experience.

This entry-level role rewards teamwork, reliability, and strong work ethic in a fast-paced dining environment. Candidates should be able to stand for long periods, lift up to 50 pounds, and pass a background check; training and growth opportunities

Qualifications

• Ability to work well as part of a team.
• Working knowledge of operating a commercial dishwasher.
• Familiarity with industry best practices.
• Previous restaurant dishwashing experience preferred.
• Food safety handler and sanitation certification, or ability to obtain one within 30 days of employment.
• Ability to pass a background check.
• High school or vocational coursework in kitchen basics, such as food safety, preferred.

Responsibilities

• Keep the kitchen and dining room clean and sanitary.
• Wash utensils, equipment, and dishes by machine or by hand.
• Put away clean dishware, glassware, flatware, pots, and pans.
• Stock supplies at serving stations, cupboards, refrigerators, and salad bars.
• Sweep and wash floors.
• Sort and remove trash to designated pickup areas.
• Help with food prep duties as directed, such as salad bar and cold dishes.
• Help unload and put away deliveries.
• Communicate regularly with management by phone, email, and text.

The Role

Chef's Notes

• The work environment can be loud and busy, with kitchen hazards such as hot surfaces and liquids, sharp knives, and slippery floors
• Exposure to extreme heat or cold is possible depending on the kitchen environment
• Required to stand for long periods, up to 8+ hours, as well as walk, bend, and stoop
• Must be able to lift and/or move objects up to 50 pounds
• Exposure to cleaning chemicals
