Job summary

Space Dynamics Laboratory in Logan, Utah is seeking an undergraduate Student Software Engineer to join our software team. You will work with experienced engineers to evaluate, test, and improve a complex software system used in DoD missions.

This onsite role offers hands-on Python development, Linux systems exposure, and experience with VMware, Kubernetes, OpenShift, and CI/CD pipelines. You will learn across tools and contribute by writing documentation and participating in code reviews.

Qualifications

Pursuing a bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field.
At least one year remaining in studies.
Proficient in Python with hands-on programming experience.
Understanding of software development basics: debugging, testing, and design.
Willingness to learn new languages, tools, platforms, and technologies.
Strong problem-solving and written/verbal communication skills.
Ability to work onsite in Logan, Utah and 15–20 hours per week during the academic year.
U.S. citizen able to obtain government security clearance.

Responsibilities

Develops Python scripts and utilities to support testing, integration, deployment.
Performs evaluation tests, analyzes results, documents findings.
Assists with software integration, testing activities, and troubleshooting.
Works with Linux-based systems and enterprise tech (RHEL, VMware, Kubernetes, OpenShift).
Contributes to CI/CD pipelines, automation, and tooling.
Creates technical documentation and reports for engineering artifacts.
Uses Git, Bitbucket, Jira, and Confluence for collaboration.
Collaborates with software, systems, and infrastructure engineers on the FORGE team.
