The Institute for Stem Cell Biology and Regenerative Medicine , with over 40 member faculty and approximately 45 graduate students, is devoted to exploring how stem cells are created, the mechanisms by which they are regulated and how they devolve into specialized cells. The ultimate goal is to translate this knowledge into dramatic new medical therapies for some of the world’s most serious and intractable afflictions. We have a Student Services Officer 1 position open for a qualified candidate to provide administrative and operational support to our graduate program. This role supports the Student Services Officer 2, Director of Graduate Studies, faculty and students on issues regarding admission, financial aid, housing, registrar services, visa services, student life, advising, career counseling and academic services. Under the direction of the Student Services Officer 2, you will resolve routine issues of limited scope within your own work area using defined policies and practices and professional knowledge, as well as provide advice to students on a range of issues to guide them in making appropriate choices and decisions.

It is critical that you exhibit the abilities to practice sound judgment and decision-making, effective written and oral communication, strong attention to detail and respectful relationship management with students and faculty. You will also possess the ability to connect with a diverse student population including socioeconomically and educationally disadvantaged, individuals with disabilities, and under-represented minority backgrounds is critical.
Core Duties:
Oversee, review and administer student records by analyzing data,counseling students and providing recommendations that requireinterpretation and influence decisions. Make exceptions on issues ofeligibility, course enrollment and program requirements.
Develop recommendations and collaborate with staff, faculty andother offices to resolve programmatic issues within the school andacross functional units, (such as strategizing to ensure optimalenrollment).
Provide advice to students on a range of issues, including, butnot limited to, academic progress, academic program policies, careerplans, accessibility, community standards, etc., to guide them in makingappropriate choices and decisions.
Apprise students of research, fellowship and scholarshipopportunities. Participate in related student recruitment andselection.
Provide first line response to identify students in crisis andrefer to appropriate resources, as needed.
Collect and analyze data from multiple sources including studentfeedback, surveys, trend reports, and data analytics. Prepare andsummarize reports and make recommendations to enhance offerings, such asprograms and courses and to influence current processes andpolicies.
Develop, analyze, influence and review, policies, processes andprograms by incorporating feedback and trend data learned fromfirst-line interactions with students. Advise manager and team on policyupdates and provide recommendation for implementation ofchanges.
Identify trends, perform needs analysis, and participate in theimplementation and testing of new technology.
May develop marketing materials and strategies for programactivities and outreach functions. Assist in planning and developingwebinars, education fairs and other external functions.
May provide oversight with the administration of financialprocesses such as financial reimbursements, data entry, reviewing termsand conditions regarding contracts, understanding vendor requirements,and following up and resolving issues.
May train and supervise other staff, volunteers, student andtemporary workers.
Bachelor’s degree and two years of relevant experience, orcombination of education and relevant experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Basic computer skills, including experience with Microsoft OfficeSuite.
Basic analysis and problem solving skills.
Relevant computer systems/technology experience.
Understanding of financial transactions.
Ability to learn and understand compliance with legal, financial,and university policies and external regulations.
